    Project Description
As part of the Coney Island Beach Replenishment project, 14 new buildings were constructed along the boardwalk from W. 36th Street to Brighton 11th Street. Each building is supported by wood friction piles and a reinforced concrete mat that spans between the piles. The piles and mat have been designed to stand free of the lateral support provided by the span for 10 feet in case the beach erodes to its original profile during a storm. The buildings are different lengths but the same width. Precast columns bearing on the piles support the second floor and curved concrete ribs. A precast concrete plank roof spans between the ribs and overhangs on all four sides to provide shelter from the sun and rain. The facade consists of concrete block and brick supported by grade beams that span between the piles. Reinforced concrete and wood ramps provide access from the beach to the boardwalk and the entrances to each of the buildings.
