Project Description
The new Essex County Hospital Center was built on 11 acres of County-owned property on Grove Avenue that is located less than one mile away from the previous location on Fairview Avenue. The 154,000-square-foot complex consists of five interconnected buildings and can accommodate 180 patients.

The hospital facility is comprised of five interconnected buildings that allow staff and patients to walk throughout the buildings without going outside. There are buildings for the main entrance and all-purpose room; two buildings that house residential units; the treatment mall; and education facilities. Located in the center of the buildings is a half-acre enclosed courtyard.

The residential rooms are clustered in small groups so patients are never far from hospital supervision staff. There is a cafeteria, chapel, computer lab, library and hair care center for patients and additional rooms are available for therapy and programs. Patients will be able to get fresh air and exercise in a beautifully landscaped courtyard located in the center of the buildings and on about three acres of open space on the hospital grounds, which includes a greenhouse. The Hospital Center also has space for administration offices and exam areas.
